7. Lincoln Architects and Builders
SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION ON THE LINCOLN BUILDING APPLICATIONS DATABASE, 1866-1952
Another potential source of complementary material to use alongside the Lincoln Building Applications Database is the wealth of documentation created by architects and builders who practised in Lincoln. The database indicates the range of architects and builders who were involved, but to date little of their surviving paperwork has been assessed or made readily available. This website hopes to add relevant material as it becomes available.
Lincoln Building Applications Project: 1866 - 1952
DATABASE (revised 2020)
W & WM Mortimer (Architects) Lincoln by Geoff Tann
As a start, the fortuitously discovered ledgers of Lincoln architects William Mortimer and his son William M Mortimer 1879 - 1935 have been indexed.
Documentation relating to prolific Lincoln builder Harry Webster is understood to survive, currently held by descendants living in Essex, and attempts are being made to find and to examine the material and - perhaps - to arrange for its transfer to Lincolnshire Archives.
Any information on the work of other Lincoln architects or builders would be of great interest - please contact Geoff Tann at solsecretary@gmail.com.
