Lincolnshire Archives now holds an invaluable series of building application records compiled by the City Engineer's Department of Lincoln Corporation and the Lincoln City Council between 1866 and 1952. The records summarised the content of development applications submitted under the Public Health Acts and were retained as they showed the planning history for an address.

Original plans showing each location and the development proposal were submitted with many of the applications.

The resource was used by the City of Lincoln Council Heritage Team, and John Herridge compiled a database of the thousands of records.  The Directorate of Development and Environmental Services transferred the material to Lincolnshire Archives a few years ago during rearrangement of offices.

Lincolnshire Archives has allowed The Survey of Lincoln to reproduce the database. Users are asked to contact Lincolnshire Archives' Collections Officer Adrian Wilkinson (Adrian.Wilkinson@lincolnshire.gov.uk in advance of planning any visit to Lincolnshire Archives to view the original material, as it is not yet fully catalogued and some material is not available for viewing.
